Meet Sevda, the maker behind By Seay
From the first crochet stitch to the final assembly, every By Seay order is created by Sevda in her Türkiye studio. There is no production line, only one maker and a process shaped by years of experience.
A craft passed through generations
Sevda grew up surrounded by crochet and knitting. Her mother, grandmother and aunts taught her the craft when she was a child, beginning a lifelong relationship with yarn and handmade design.
From gifts to more than 300 designs
She first made booties for the children of close friends. When she created a sneaker-inspired pair for her sneaker-loving husband, a new creative direction began. Sevda opened the By Seay Etsy shop in 2015 and has since developed more than 300 original designs for customers around the world.
No purchased patterns
Every model begins in Sevda’s mind. She studies the original shoe, visualizes its construction, calculates where to begin and develops the shape stitch by stitch. She does not buy or follow ready-made patterns. Depending on the complexity, a design can take from one or two days to a full week to create.
MATERIALS & COLOR
A color for every custom creation
The studio holds a carefully organized yarn library for hundreds of possible color combinations. Sevda works with organic cotton and wool yarn, selecting the colors and textures needed for each individual order.
Made by one pair of hands
There is no factory, production team or ready stock. Sevda makes every order herself from the first stitch, in the customer’s chosen size and color. Each pair is finished in Türkiye and presented in gift wrapping inside a special box.
THE WORKSHOP
Inside the By Seay studio
Crochet, construction, assembly and finishing all happen in Sevda’s dedicated workshop. The equipment supports the process, but the shaping, detail work and final decisions remain firmly handmade.
